In July 2019, New York passed the Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security (SHIELD) Act.
The SHIELD law requires any person or business owning or licensing computerized data of a New York resident to implement and maintain reasonable safeguards to protect the confidentiality of the private information.
